Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA)

For some individuals, a traditional hearing aid may not be the solution for their hearing loss. There are certain types of hearing loss that can better benefit from a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid or BAHA. If the hearing loss is caused by middle ear dysfunction, or the individual has single sided deafness, a BAHA may be the most appropriate option.

A BAHA is a surgically implanted device that sends vibrations through the bone directly to the inner ear. The signal bypasses the ear canal and middle ear completely.

The evaluation for BAHA candidacy is almost exactly like a traditional hearing evaluation, but with some extra testing involving bone conduction. If it is determined that you are a candidate for the device a referral will be sent to a doctor who performs the procedure to place a titanium implant. After the implant fuses with the skull, the preprogrammed BAHA is attached and adjusted in our office.
