Pediatric Hearing Evaluations

We perform pediatric hearing evaluations on children ages 6 months old and up. After getting a medical history and performing some objective tests, your child’s hearing will be tested one of two ways depending on age.

Evaluation Testing

Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA)

Testing is performed by training the child to look toward a sound source that is presented through speakers placed to the right and left sides. When the child looks at the source, they are rewarded with visual stimuli above the speaker.

Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA)

This test makes a game out of the hearing test by using toys and activities. It is more similar to an adult hearing exam in that it utilizes headphones or inserts in the ears. The child plays the game by performing the activity every time they hear a tone through the headphones.
